Former ninth racket of the world Andrei Chesnokov summed up the results of the “VTB Kremlin Cup”.
Russian Aslan Karatsev won the men's tournament, Estonian Anette Kontaveit won the women's tournament.
– I did not watch the final match, but I was sure in advance that Karatsev would win. Because he plays so fast and sharp that his opponents are unable to handle the balls that he sends. Cilic also plays actively and sharply, but, as I understand it, Aslan had an advantage. I think Marin Cilic did not cope with the speed of Karatsev, so this is the score. But in any case, he is great, he had a rather difficult first match with Paul.
When I watched the match between Karatsev and Simon, and then with Khachanov, where Aslan simply defeated him in the second set, I immediately understood who would be the winner of the tournament. And it’s great that the Russian won the Kremlin Cup, I’m very pleased.
I also did not see the women's final, today I decided to rest and not watch anything. But I can say that Kontaveit is playing very well now. She works wonders with the ball: she sends them wherever and however you want. A very potential player. But, if you lead 6: 4, 6: 0, you need to squeeze in some way. Of course it happens. But Kontaveit has been playing so well lately that she could simply turn the tide of the match out of the blue, which she apparently did, – said Chesnokov.
Karatsev makes his debut in the top 20 thanks to his victory at the VTB Kremlin Cup.
