Under contract until June 2022, Claude Puel was dismissed last December, following a rout against Stade Rennais (0-5).
What had to happen, happened. Extremely criticized since the start of the season, Claude Puel was fired by the ASSE , following a new misstep during the 17th day of Ligue 1. “This Sunday, the Executive Chairman of AS Saint-Étienne took the decision to withdraw from Mr. Claude Puel, until further notice, the management of the professional team ”can be read in the press release published by the club. It wasn't that last game that tipped the scales, however. The Team has indeed revealed that Puel's departure had been in the pipeline for quite some time at Saint-Étienne and in particular for a month. It must be said that the Greens are stagnating in the depths of the standings and no real spark has been seen recently, suggesting a recovery in the situation. This does not seem to have particularly affected the principal concerned, who would probably have gone to the restaurant with his assistants Jacky Bonnevay and Julien Sablé, after learning of his layoff.
Dupraz, the big favorite
In Saint-Étienne, we are now working to find a new coach to place at the head of the team, knowing that if Jacky Bonnevay is gone, Julien Sablé is still there to take over the interim. And a track is already clear! We revealed to you on le10sport.com that the successor of Claude Puel could soon arrive with Pascal Dupraz, former coach of Toulouse and SM Caen . A name confirmed by several media since and often accompanied by that of David Guion, who would probably have the favors of Roland Romeyer.
Puel will cost almost of 3M € to ASSE
Before thinking of replacing Claude Puel, it will however be necessary to pay him the compensation for his dismissal. And it will cost the ASSE dear! According to information from RMC Sport, it could be around 3M €, since the 60-year-old was earning nearly 225,000 € per month and his contract was supposed to end next June, not to mention his staff and other charges. . RMC explains that the intention of the Saint-Etienne leaders would be to negotiate with Puel, in order to lower this amount … but things do not look easy! Relations between the two camps are said to be fresh and for the moment they should therefore stick only to discussions at a distance, with their lawyers.
