Against all expectations, Samuel Umtiti extended his contract with FC Barcelona until June 2026. However, Joan Laporta took care to introduce some clauses which could well make things simpler for him concerning the Frenchman's future.

Clearly not entering into Xavi 's game plans, Samuel Umtiti seemed doomed to a departure this winter. However, this Monday, the FC Barcelona formalized the extension of the 2018 world champion until June 2026. The aim of the operation was to reduce the salary of the former OL in order to allow Barça to record < strong> Ferran Torres in its workforce in accordance with financial fair play. This extension may also allow Samuel Umtiti to see several doors open to him for his future as his salary is now more affordable for many teams. However, Joan Laporta has taken care to include certain clauses in the Frenchman's new engagement that will certainly make things easier for him.

Barça can break Umtiti's contract as early as 2023!

As the reveals the journalist Gerard Romero , Samuel Umtiti would have agreed to lower his salary by 10% and to distribute the emoluments he should have received during the next 18 months over the four and a half years to come. The Habs international would therefore not receive any salary increases and his short-term earnings would be much lower than they could have been. However, the real bargain here is this. FC Barcelona would now be able to break the contract of Samuel Umtiti from 2023. Whatever happens, the Catalan club could therefore part with the 28-year-old defender in a year and a half, as was planned with his old contract since it was due to expire in June 2023.
