However, after the last exams, my doctors advised me to stop playing professional football. Their words were enough to make a choice. Retiring under these circumstances is difficult, but life comes first. I have known that from the start. Football has taught me that you can turn a loss into a victory. It won't be any different. It’s painful, sure, but it’s not a tragedy. A tragedy would have been quite another thing. My thoughts are not on how much time I had left to play, but rather on the wonderful 18 years that I was able to play. This incredible career will be etched in my mind, as will leading it with passion and dedication year after year. I keep the affection and attention I received from each of the teams I played for when I was just a kid. And then to Independiente, Atletico de Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona, and the Argentina national team, which has always been so dear to me. My gratitude goes to the fans, who have supported me through thick and thin. Your support made me stronger. I would like to thank all the coaches, teammates, colleagues, staffs, physios and managers who have allowed me to develop my career in the best conditions. My gratitude goes especially to my family and friends, who have always been by my side.
