After holding a midday press conference on Wednesday to announce his retirement, Sergio Agüero posted a long message on social networks to come back on the end of his career.

“This conference is to tell you that I have decided to stop playing football. With tears in his eyes, Sergio Agüero made official on Wednesday at a press conference at Camp Nou the end of his career due to a heart problem. Victim of discomfort on October 30, during the match between FC Barcelona and Alavés , the 33-year-old striker was diagnosed as suffering from a cardiac arrhythmia, which therefore forced him to retire. On social networks, Sergio Agüero wanted to send a new message on the subject, remaining optimistic for the future.

“My doctors advised me to stop playing professional football. Their words were enough to make a choice ”

“I always knew I would give anything to have a chance to play again. However, after the last exams, my doctors advised me to stop playing professional football. Their words were enough to make a choice. Retiring under these circumstances is difficult, but life comes first. I have known that from the start. Football has taught me that you can turn a loss into a victory. It won't be any different. It’s painful, sure, but it’s not a tragedy. A tragedy would have been quite another thing. My thoughts are not on how much time I had left to play, but rather on the wonderful 18 years that I was able to play. This incredible career will be etched in my mind, as will leading it with passion and dedication year after year. I keep the affection and attention I received from each of the teams I played for when I was just a kid. And then to Independiente, Atletico de Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona, and the Argentina national team, which has always been so dear to me. My gratitude goes to the fans, who have supported me through thick and thin. Your support made me stronger. I would like to thank all the coaches, teammates, colleagues, staffs, physios and managers who have allowed me to develop my career in the best conditions. My gratitude goes especially to my family and friends, who have always been by my side. And to my agents, the same ones I have kept from the age of 14, who have accompanied me with the greatest professionalism and the greatest honesty. Beyond the titles that I helped to win, which I really appreciate, my greatest achievement has been to gain the respect of my colleagues, and the love of the world of football. This is something that will not change, I will keep it in my heart, and it will make me strong for what is to come. Life goes on, and there is a lot to do. It will be a new step, a different step, but I will continue as I have done so far: always positive, with enthusiasm and joy ”, writes Sergio Agüero on social networks.
