After the elimination in the Champions League and the catastrophic results of the team, this winter transfer window could already mark a turning point in Xavi's adventure on the FC Barcelona bench.
From the large defeat on the lawn of the Allianz Arena (0-3), a slogan was imposed on FC Barcelona . Whether it is the president, the coach or the players, everyone has explained that this blow must be the start of a whole new era. “This is the harsh reality that we know. Today is the start of a new phase ”explained Xavi. “It has to be a turning point to change a lot of things. We will work to bring Barça to where it deserves to be ”. This new phase will be very different from what we have seen in recent years, especially with the presidency of Josep Maria Bartomeu . No big flashy transfers, therefore, room for austerity for a club which already did not seem to be running on gold and which in particular had to make huge sacrifices this summer, especially with the departure of Lionel Messi.
Barça has already started with Umtiti and Coutinho
With the winter transfer window fast approaching, the leaders of FC Barcelona want to jump at the opportunity to clean up the workforce and therefore cut down on the payroll. Thus, AS tells us that the first movements have already taken place with Philippe Coutinho and Samuel Umtiti, clearly undesirable within Barça and this for several years already. The Frenchman has not regained his level since 2018 and his Brazilian teammate has never managed to win in Catalonia. It remains to be seen which clubs will show up, as the latest attempts to sell them have all been unsuccessful.
Attack the most affected area
The area expected to see the most changes this winter appears to be the attack. In recent hours several media have mentioned the loan of the young Alex Collado to Granada and he should probably be followed by Luuk de Jong . Arrived this summer on loan from Sevilla FC the Dutchman was a request from Ronald Koeman, but he never seemed to have a real place at FC Barcelona . The surprise could however come from Sergio Aguero! According to AS reports, the Argentine is at the top of the start list with his salary of € 6m a year. As a reminder, Aguero had come to Catalonia to join his friend Lionel Messi … who finally went to Paris Saint-Germain.
