While Ousmane Dembélé seems to have dropped a bomb on Xavi Hernandez behind the scenes, FC Barcelona would maintain dialogue for a year with his entourage to extend his current contract until June 2022.

What if Ousmane Dembélé were to leave FC Barcelona in the coming weeks? At the end of the season, the tricolor world champion could well have the status of free agent due to the expiration of his contract on June 30, 2022. Moreover, if we are to believe the information disclosed by El Chiringuito, Ousmane Dembélé would have already announced to Xavi Hernandez of his willingness to look elsewhere on the sidelines of next season. Nevertheless, FC Barcelona would not seem to give up.

Barça have been talking to Dembélé for over a year!

At least that's what Fabrizio Romano has revealed through his column called Here We Go for CBS Sports. Negotiations between Barça and Dembélé have been going on for more than a year, even before the election of Joan Laporta last March in the presidential. And the appointment of Xavi as manager would give President Laporta one more edge up his sleeve as the manager would like to see him stay. There is still no economic deal to report, however, but sources within the club said the deal could well lead to a contract extension.
