Barely with OM, Dario Benedetto was loaned to Elche last summer. However, his adventure in Spain is not going as well as expected and the player could consider a definitive return to Argentina. This departure could also arrange the affairs of the Marseille club and those of its owner, Frank McCourt.
Last summer, OM parted ways with several players. On this list including Florian Thauvin , Valère Germain or Hiroki Sakai , we can find Dario Benedetto. Having seen his playing time decrease in the second half of last season against competition from Arkadiusz Milik , the Argentine found himself a way out in order to be able to revive. The 31-year-old forward was therefore loaned to Elche during the last summer transfer window. However, his adventure in Spain did not pay off either, Dario Benedetto having scored just 2 goals in 15 games in all competitions. As a result, the player still belonging to the OM could consider a return home.
Benedetto received an offer from Boca Juniors
According to information from Foot Mercato, the OM could well get rid of definitely from Dario Benedetto . The Argentina forward has reportedly received an official offer from Boca Juniors , where he played between 2016 and 2019 before joining the Marseille club. His agent, Christian Bragarnik , who is also the owner of Elche , where he was loaned by OM , would be in favor of a return to Argentina for his client. Everything seems to be falling into place little by little for the future of Dario Benedetto . And that should remove a hell of a thorn from the side of Marseille management.
The opportunity to part with a flop and a big salary at the same time for OM
Indeed, this opportunity to separate from Dario Benedetto soon would allow the OM to get rid of one of his flops. Recruited in 2019 with the figure of the great striker so much sought after by the Olympian club, the Argentinian did not perform as expected. In 71 games in all competitions, Dario Benedetto has only found the net 17 times and only provided 5 assists. By comparison, Kostas Mitroglou , regularly criticized for his lack of efficiency, has only scored one goal behind the Argentinian in just 50 games. In addition, the departure of Dario Benedetto would allow OM to greatly reduce its payroll. Indeed, the 31-year-old would receive around € 260,000 per month, which is as much as Steve Mandanda and almost as much as Dimitri Payet . The OM should therefore emerge as a majority winner from the operation, if Dario Benedetto leaves the club for good.
