At PSG, since 2018 and the retirement of Thiago Motta, the Italian's successor as sentinel has never been found. What if this one was Marco Verratti?

A PSG player between 2012 and 2018, Thiago Motta was of enormous importance within the capital club. Positioned as a sentinel in front of the defense, the Italian was the playing master and the regulator of the Parisian game. But since his retirement, his departure has never really been remedied despite all the efforts and the players recruited to try to come and make him forget. The successor of Motta is therefore still sought after, but Mauricio Pochettino could well have found the solution with Marco Verratti. More and more, the Italian is used in 6 and brings a lot thanks to his technical ability to bring out the balls. What finally to forget Thiago Motta ?

“The position where he is the best”

In the eyes of Mathieu Bodmer, Marco Verratti could well be this number 6 so sought after at PSG . In an interview with the Parisian, the former capital club player explained: “Is this sentry role for Verratti? Yes. For me, this is the position where he is the best. He is able to take out balloons under pressure and never panics. I would even say he likes it and it reassures his defenders. Then, he can draw on himself two or three players, and thus create shifts to break the opposing pressing. This allows the attackers to have space, and sometimes have 60 to 70m in front of them. ”
