Ovechkin received a puck from the match against Columbus as a keepsake

Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin scored his 742nd goal in an overseas career against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL regular season.

The Russian forward came in to a clear fourth place on the list of the best NHL snipers in history, surpassing Brett Hull's figure.

Washington posted a photo of Ovechkin with a commemorative puck.

Wayne Gretzky holds the record for goals in the NHL (894), followed by Gordy Howe (801) and Jaromir Jagr (766).
