Aslan Karatsev: “I didn’t succeed in my plans, but I shouldn’t run away into negativity”

Russian tennis player Aslan Karatsev commented on the defeat to Australian John Milman (3: 6, 2: 6) in the second round match of the ATP tournament in St. Petersburg.

– Has the fatigue accumulated only physical or psychological too?

– I think both physical and psychological. The end of October, I didn't expect to be fresh, but I had to stick to the plan, play every ball and be more positive about the match. Even though I didn't succeed in what I intended, I shouldn't have run away into negativity .

– What were the strengths of your opponent?

– Of course, he played well both at the beginning and at the end. He had very few unforced errors. He moved very well, served well, did not give anything just like that.

– How could this negativity be avoided? Began to scold yourself because the game is not working out?

– Yes, you could say that. I did not move the way I wanted to, my legs got up. Thoughts were more negative than positive.

– Andrey Rublev said yesterday that you are the strongest doubles player in the Russian team. Who would you have the strongest Davis Cup duet with?

– I think it will be seen on the spot when we hold the training session. We will see who is ready and, based on this, decide who to put. I cannot say whether I will play or not, it will be seen.

– In St. Petersburg you are with a physical training coach. Tell us who you are working with now?

– Yes, at the moment I'm here with a physical training coach. I played America with him, I will be with him until Paris and, of course, then I will continue to work with him.

In the match with Millman, Karatsev made 8 innings through and made 5 double faults.
