Actor Keanu Reeves said he would not like to see his characters Neo from “The Matrix” and John Wick from the eponymous series of films in the fighting games Mortal Kombat. He spoke about this, answering questions in a video on the Esquire channel.
Keanu Reeves:
“If it was up to me, I wouldn't agree to [add Neo and John Wick to Mortal Kombat]. Mortal Kombat is very good in many ways, but Neo and John Wick do their own thing and Mortal Kombat do theirs. “
Studio NetherRealm planned to introduce Neo to Injustice 2 back in 2017, but then they failed to agree with the copyright owners. At the same time, the creator of the Mortal Kombat series, Ed Boone, did not abandon this idea: in October 2019, he noted that he would like to see in the fighting game many heroes that he is inspired by, including Neo and John Wick.
The last game in this series, Mortal Kombat 11, was released in April 2019. Although John Wick and Neo never appeared in MK, Terminator, Robocop and John Rambo from the franchises of the same name later added to the list of available fighters. In July 2021, NetherRealm announced the end of support for the fighting game.
