Marin Cilic: “Even if I lost to Khachanov, I would be sure that I had a great match”

Horvat Marin Chilich commented on the victory over Russian Karen Khachanov in the second round of the tournament in St. Petersburg.

The 33-year-old tennis player beat the Russian in three sets – 6: 4, 6: 7 (1), 6: 4.

– At some point in the third set, almost everything was on Karen's side, but I just stayed focused, continued to show my game. If with the score 4: 1 Karen had a great next two games, I would congratulate him on winning this match. After more than two hours on the court, it is not easy for everyone, it is difficult to maintain stability, but when I had a chance to return to the game, I took it, again I was able to find a good rhythm and serve. I want to emphasize that the whole fight went off at an excellent level for both of us. Even if I lost, I would be sure that I had a great match.

We often trained with Karen, I respect him very much. He's a great guy who plays incredible tennis and always commands respect on the court, ”said Cilic.

Cilic's next opponent will be the Spanish winner Roberto Bautista-Agut.
