A few hours before the opening of the winter transfer window, AS Saint-Etienne is already very active behind the scenes. And for good reason, reinforcements are hoped for from the first days of January in order to compensate for departures from the CAN. And while many leads have circulated, the recruitment of ASSE begins to settle.

After a very delicate first part of the season, AS Saint-Etienne decided to dispense with the services of Claude Puel . As revealed exclusively by le10sport.com, Pascal Dupraz was chosen to replace him. Familiar with this role of firefighter on duty, the former coach of Toulouse however hopes to see reinforcements disembark this winter. “I have the weakness to think that I have recipes to advance this team. If we improve this group, I won't say no. There is the CAN, a young group, you have to measure what a club represents. At 18 or 20, that can impress, ”he confided during his first press conference. It must be said that the ASSE will be particularly impacted by the CAN . Indeed, Denis Bouanga , Wahbi Khazri , Harold Moukoudi , Yvan Neyou and Saïdou Sow will fly to Cameroon where the competition will be held between January 9 and February 6. Consequently, the Greens must imperatively strengthen themselves in order not to experience a nightmarish month of January which could jeopardize their chances of survival.

Gnagnon and Sako formalized from January 1, Ferhat in the process?

Aware of the situation, the Forez club is already active behind the scenes. Indeed, L'Equipe reveals in its columns this Monday that two recruits will be formalized from January 1. They are Joris Gnagnon and Bakary Sako . The two players arrive free, but not under the same conditions. The former defender of Stade Rennais , overweight and who still has the after-effects of Covid-19, is struggling to regain his physical condition and could be forced to wait until March to be available. Recruited to compensate for the departure from CAN of Harold Moukoudi , Joris Gnagnon could therefore have had difficulty in assuming its task. Regarding Bakary Sako , already passed through the ASSE between 2009 and 2012, the Stéphanois staff would have been impressed by the level displayed by the striker in training. The former Wolverhampton player has been training for a month with the Greens and although he has not played for a year and a half and the end of his adventure with the Cypriot club of Pafos , he looks very fit. Bakary Sako would have agreed to commit by touching the minimum wage, which represents a good deal for ASSE which is therefore not taking any risk in this matter. But risks, it will be necessary to take to revive in Ligue 1. With this in mind, L'Equipe adds that the Greens have resumed contact with the entourage of Zinedine Ferhat whose counter to Nîmes s' ends next June. The Algerian international, who was not called up to play in the CAN , has not played since the end of October and the Gard club will not oppose an early departure of Zinedine Ferhat in order to save his last 6 months of salary. The former Le Havre would receive approximately € 60,000 gross per month, a salary that ASSE would be able to afford. One thing is certain, Pascal Dupraz would like to announce the arrival of the three players on January 1. While waiting for other reinforcements, in particular at the center forward post.
