Posted on October 20, 2021 at 6.30 p.m. by AM Present on the Al-Rayyan bench since December 2020, Laurent Blanc seems to be thriving in Qatar. So much so that the former PSG coach sweeps away rumors sending him to Manchester United or FC Barcelona. Four and a half years. This is the time between the dismissal of Laurent Blanc from PSG , in May 2016, and his assumption of duty at Al-Rayyan in December 2020. And yet, the former coach of the France team revealed in recent days, in an interview with Panenka, that 'he had received several proposals, including that of FC Barcelona in 2017 to take over from Luis Enrique . “Since then, I have had proposals, but I decided not to accept them. It might be my fault, but that's how it happened. And then, even if football is my passion, other things interest me in life, there are my children, my family (…) I have spoken two or three times with Eric Abidal. Obviously it was a dream to coach an institution like Barca, but it didn't happen for various reasons. It was not the right time. That's life, ”he confided. Moreover, his name continues to circulate in Europe as at FC Barcelona and Manchester United where the posts of Ronald Koeman and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are clearly threatened. But Laurent Blanc is very clear about his future. Blanc sweeps away the rumors In an interview with AFP, Laurent Blanc ensures that he absolutely does not think of a return to Europe despite the rumors sending him to Barcelona or Manchester: “It is not topical. I am here. I fought to bring in good players. I enjoy training in Qatar. It will last what it will last, a year, a year and a half, two years, or two months … I don't know. It is a human adventure (…) It is not a lack of ambition, but it is a reality. I'm in Qatar and so far that's what interests me. “It must be said that Laurent Blanc could win his first trophy with Al-Rayyan on Friday on the occasion of the Emir Cup final against Al -Sadd , the club coached by Xavi . Therefore, the former coach of PSG is focused on his ambitions in Qatar. “It is first of all to win matches because at the moment we do not win much (7th in the championship with 6 points in five matches, editor's note), and to win the Emir's Cup (.. .) And make the future better, ”he adds. In other words, we will probably have to be patient before seeing Laurent Blanc return to the bench of a major European club. Skip back to main navigation
