While FC Barcelona have been grappling with serious financial problems for quite some time, Barca have settled on € 40m in summer 2020 for Pedri.

After a few days of speculation that kept fueling the Catalan press, FC Barcelona announced the extension of Pedri last Thursday. The 18-year-old Spain international and 2021 Golden Boy favorite signed a contract binding him to the club until June 2026 with a € 1bn release clause. Enough to allow FC Barcelona to clearly announce the color to its courtiers in the future: Pedri is untouchable. And this decision would not be rash since FC Barcelona would have already approached several months ago by a European cador who wanted to secure the services of Pedri.

Bayern wanted to bet 40M € on Pedri

This is indeed what Fabrizio Romano assured during his column Here We Go for CBS the last few hours. In the summer of 2020, just a few hours after FC Barcelona defeated in Lisbon for the quarter-final of the Final 8 of the Champions League against Bayern Munich (8-2), the club which would become European champion a few days later would have approached FC Barcelona for a possible transfer from Pedri . Besides, the German champion would have been prepared to shell out the tidy sum of € 40m. However, Barca quickly repelled the advances of Bayern Munich and recently extended Pedri with an inaccessible clause in order to make it known that he will be one of the headliners of the reconstruction of FC Barcelona .
