Recruited by FC Barcelona last summer, Sergio Agüero was finally forced to end his playing career due to a heart defect. The Argentine striker, who formalized the news in tears on Wednesday at a press conference, spoke at length about this decision.

Several weeks ago, it was discovered that Sergio Agüero (33) suffered from a complex cardiac arrhythmia which therefore called into question the rest of his professional career, and the news was confirmed by the Argentinian scorer of FC Barcelona this Wednesday in front of the media: “This conference is to communicate to you that we have decided to leave the world of football. It's a very hard time, it's the worst decision I've made in my life. It's a question of health, it's the best decision for me, ”explained Agüero , not without a certain emotion since the player of Barça could not hold back tears.

“We understood that it was not possible”

Sergio Agüero spoke in detail about how the past few weeks had unfolded, with a series of exams compelling him to make the drastic decision: “I was in good hands with the doctors, they did their best. They told me it was best for me to quit. I made the decision a week ago. I did everything I could, I had hope but it was not possible (…) The first two weeks, it was complicated. The first tests carried out at the hospital told me directly that I could perhaps continue playing but it would be complicated. Then we understood that it was not possible “, confides Agüero , who then retraced his whole career.

” I remain proud of my career “

“I arrived at Atletico very young. Then at City, you know what I think of this club. Then I arrived in Barcelona, which has always treated me very well. I arrived at the best club in the world but things are not happening for nothing. I do not forget the Argentinian selection which is the maximum. I have known my teammates here recently, I have always done my best to help the team. I also want to thank my teammates who helped me progress (…) If I had to keep a moment at Barca? I would say it's the fans all over the world, it surprised me a lot. All this love they gave me. The way I was treated and the teammates. Obviously, I'd rather have to quit football now than at 20. I remain proud of my career, ”concluded the FC Barcelona striker.
