Ovechkin became the first star in October in the NHL

Washington striker Alexander Ovechkin was named the first star of October in the NHL regular season.

In eight games, the Russian scored nine goals and made six assists.

The second star was Edmonton striker Connor McDavid, while Carolina goalkeeper Frederick Andersen was named the third star.

Earlier, Ovechkin came out on to a clean second place in the NHL on goals in an empty net.
