Strongly desired by Jorge Sampaoli given that he had achieved a six-month stint on loan very conclusively last season at OM, Pol Lirola was the subject of a long series all throughout the summer transfer window. And Fiorentina seems to have given Pablo Longoria serious headaches during the negotiations…

When he arrived in the form of a loan with option to buy at OM last January, Pol Lirola (24) probably did not imagine living a such a story with the Marseille club. On the strength of this first convincing six-month stint under Jorge Sampaoli , Pablo Longoria therefore quickly decided, at the beginning of the summer, to negotiate a final transfer of Lirola with Fiorentina . Discussions that dragged on for very long weeks, and in an interview with La Provence this Friday, Lirola lets go of her truths on this subject.

“The leaders of the Fio did not behave well with OM ”

The Spanish right side of OM tells about the hardship of his situation while Longoria negotiated with Fiorentina : “This season, it was a long time to sign and therefore difficult mentally and physically. The important thing is that I am settled and that I will be there for several years. I remain calm, everything will get better and better (…) The truth is that I did not know if I could come back because the days passed and the transfer did not take place. But Pablo told me to be quiet and assured me that I would come back. At the end of last season, I thought the transfer was going to be done very quickly, like Leonardo Balerdi. I admit that I had moments of nervousness. It's football, there are sometimes difficult negotiations between the clubs, which I hear, even if I understand that the leaders of Fio have not behaved very well with OM ”, indicates Lirola .

Lirola snubbed Atalanta to return

In this same interview, the defender of 'OM justifies his desire to return to the club, and even specifies that he had given his preference to Jorge Sampaoli rather than the interest shown by Atalanta : “The first thing is that I felt very good in the club, and that I got on well overall with everything the world: employees, team members, coach and president. Its very important. When you feel good somewhere, you want to stay there. Besides, it would have been very sad to come here for five months, to play all the matches behind closed doors, and never to know a full Velodrome (…) The interest of Atalanta this summer? Jorge was waiting for me, Pablo continued to negotiate with Fiorentina… The interest of Atalanta came to my ears, and although I would love to play the Champions League, I immediately told my agent that I only wanted to play for OM. If the negotiations had not been able to be concluded with Marseille, we would have studied the other offers, “said Pol Lirola . All's well that ends well in this complicated summer transfer window file.
